Priya Bhagra - mirror reflection
Priya Bhagra - mirror reflection
Priya Bhagra – mirror reflection

It’s late in the evening
She’s wondering what clothes to wear
She puts on her make up
And brushes her long blonde? er.. black hair
And then she asks me
Do I look alright
And I say yes, you look wonderful tonight

Eric Clapton in his song “Wonderful tonight”

Admit it. Whenever we see a mirror we do tend to check ourselves out, even if its for a brief moment. Adjust our shirt a bit, set our hair more straight… I even remember being told once that mirrors are added to lifts to decrease the perception of time, as everyone in the lift will be busy checking themselves out.

Mirror has always been associated with beauty, who can forget the famous fairy tale words “Mirror Mirror on the wall..” or with the reflection of soul.. like in Michael Jacksons song “Man in the mirror”, where he talks to his soul as his reflected image to be a better person. Its such a powerful prop that its been used countless times in paintings popular examples being right from Peter Paul Rubens “Venus in Front of the Mirror” to Pablo Picassos “girl before a mirror”. Lets not forget movies, who can forget the icon mirror scene of Amitabh Bachchan in the movie Amar Akbhar Anthony, or Vincent Vega speaking to himself in the mirror explaining how to handle Mia in Pulp Fiction.

The idea was to create a mirror shot with Priya wearing an earring, however in all the shots I took, the focus was on Priya and not her reflection. In those random shots I took, I decided on one to focus on the reflection in the mirror instead of the subject. Surprisingly this turned out to be the best of the lot. I think Eric Claptons song Wonderful Tonights first stanza absolutely best describes the snap. Priya is absolutely stunning and could not have posed better for this.
