Snake charmer at Rajasthan
Snake charmer at Rajasthan

In 1991 the Indian government banned any show featuring snakes with the introduction of a new wildlife protection bill. But here as can be seen is another failed bill. There are around 8,00,000 snake charmers in India who know only this act as a way of earning their bread. This is passed from father to son for generations, and the government should have thought of a way of helping them get a new better paying job perhaps make use of their skills perhaps in snake farms for medical use. Its good that there is a ban, but bad that its not effective as it should be. The end result is that snakes suffer more as they are moved around more secretively.

While exiting out of Ajmer fort in Rajasthan was surprised to see this snake charmer boldly in the open defying the ban.
