Fishermen at Palolem

My calm peaceful book reading at Palolem is interrupted by laughter. I look up to see fishermen joke amoung themselves. They seem idle, as some smoked a bidi, while another waved his hands in the air describing some weird scene, while others looked at him with crooked smile.

The simplicity of the whole setup, and the idleness (for some) of the fishermen as they lazed around, reminded me of a passage I read by Mother Teresa in her book “A Simple Path”

“In the West we have a tendency to be profit-oriented, where everything is measured according to the results and we get caught up in being more and more active to generate results. In the East especially in India I find that people are more content to just be, to just sit around under a banyan tree for half a day chatting to each other. We Westerners would probably call that wasting time. But there is value to it. Being with someone, listening wihtout a clock and without anticipation of results, teaches us about love. The success of love is in the loving – it is not in the result of loving.”

After sometime they started pushing their boats to the sea. I clicked the snap and was pleased with the sharp outlined sun, and the shadowed ripples in the sea which gave a nice background.
